Christmas isn’t the same for everyone… there are those who love spending the holidays with family, following one of the most deep-rooted traditions of our land, those who leave for exotic destinations, and those who prefer to take advantage of it for a holiday in the mountains. Often, for those who stay in the city, between December 25th and Epiphany, there are days to spend in the company of friends. What are the ideal ingredients for those who decide to spend the holidays together with a few demanding friends? Here are some ideas for a Christmas menu… hipster and radical chic approved.
A cinephile, environmentalist, and with refined tastes, from music to food. The hipster friend is just like that: he rides his bicycle to your house even on Christmas Day, showcasing vintage sweaters and oversized glasses. In every group, there’s one: attentive to ethical consumption, perhaps a creative who drinks only biodynamic wine and buys gifts from artisanal workshops.
It’s known, friends are a bit like family, especially if they’ve been around for a long time: you care for them as if they were brothers, even if they are a bit radical chic! But how to impress them? By preparing a Christmas menu rich in organic specialties and regional delicacies! A dinner that can satisfy even the pickiest, and perhaps even keep him from talking all evening, focused on savoring your delicacies.
The hipster friend can’t help but appreciate blue cheeses: creamy and with unusual, bold, and aromatic flavors. Serve him an appetizer featuring Basajo Blu cheese aged in passito and cashews, or smoked blue cheese with black tea. His taste for the unusual will be satisfied. A final move to convince him? Tell him that the power of dairy will contribute to the growth of the perfect beard. He won’t be able to resist!
Stick to special dishes by preparing a creamy sunchoke risotto, seasoned with sichuan pepper and Hawaiian black salt. Then silence him with a biological cacciatorino salami or a Ferrara sauce salama: it's so refined that even he doesn’t know it. However, be warned, he won’t be able to live without it anymore.
And if the friend, apart from being hipster, is even vegetarian (or vegan)? No worries: he loves quinoa. Prepare it with aromatic herbs, red beet, and a drizzle of flavored extra virgin olive oil. Nothing simpler, nothing more veg-chic.
Fill the house with little LED lights (they consume less) and handmade decorations, give him one of the organic jams (they love jarred gifts!) or, if you really care for him, a Christmas basket: Tenerona Bio or Veggie Christmas, if he’s vegetarian. A glass of Recioto della Valpolicella Classico, a film by Wes Anderson (excellent The Grand Budapest Hotel), a couch in eco-leather: all the perfect ingredients to make him feel at home. An excuse to savor all the pleasure of Christmas in good company, even with the radical chic.
