There is a small valley that rises from the Veronese plain towards Monte Carega, which is over 2000 meters high. A river valley where today the large bed of Progno Illasi remains. For those who love red wine and know these territories well, they know that these are places of great wines such as the Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG. Ancient lands where Benedictine monks had placed their monastery with multiple small Romanesque stone and rock churches. The same monks who reintroduced the cultivation of vines and olives in the Middle Ages, as well as wild cherries.
In these places of the Valle di Illasi and the smaller valley of Cazzano di Tramigna, in the fraction of Campiano, which rises uncontaminated beside it, there is a particular cultivar of cherries that remains autochthonous and is always produced in small quantities. Around here, they call them More di Cazzano and they are Durone cherries of a beautiful dark color, with a good size and an intense flavor and very rich pulp.
Juicy and sweet, ideal for being eaten raw and for jams of incredible pleasure. They have a skin a bit thicker than other types, which allows them to better withstand adverse weather conditions and bad weather. When cherry season arrives, children compete to see who can jump the highest to pick them directly from the tree.
Everyone recognizes them as one of the best qualities of cherries currently available on the market. We wanted to choose this cherry again for the second consecutive year and present it to you, given the great success of last year. We also chose it because it is part of our idea of typical Italian production and gastronomic culture that we intend to develop together with you. We deliver them to your home freshly picked and they will arrive within a maximum of one day, thus in a time much shorter than the fruit's degeneration time.
Last year was one of the most successful campaigns for fresh products alongside chestnuts, which is why the category dedicated to fresh fruit and citrus was created. We couldn't miss the initiative again and we hope that many others want to try their goodness and uniqueness. As this is an autochthonous cultivar, there is not a high production, also because the cherry trees are in the high hills and located on terraces and along steep ridges.
Don’t miss this great opportunity to enjoy Durone cherries from Cazzano, one of the categories of cherries that are among the most delicious and sought after in Italy.
