Chestnuts of the Mugello Valley: Marron Buono from Marradi

The farmers of the Mugello valley where the Marron Buono grows call the chestnut trees the bread tree. In fact, from the chestnut groves in Marradi, families could receive the necessary sustenance for the whole year. Not only the fruit but also excellent firewood for burning in the fireplace and prized for sculptures and highly appreciated works of art.

Marradi is a small village in the province of Florence, nestled in the Mugello valley, a cold valley that allows, thanks to its climatic rigidity and substantial thermal exchanges, the survival of these natural monuments. In Marradi, no treatments are made, and the entire chestnut grove is to be considered organic. The Marron Buono di Marradi is indeed to be considered, organic by nature.

Its main characteristic is its sweetness that elevates it above many others in Italy. Its excellence is also its remarkable versatility in the kitchen, not only cooked on the embers for the classic roasted chestnut but also for producing flours for excellent castagnacci and marron glacé.

The chestnut trees cling to very deep layers of limestone that provide all their nutrient quality in the taste of the chestnut. These trees do not produce many chestnuts, but because of this, they remain so sweet and pleasant to the palate. Cultivation ranges from 300 to 900 meters in altitude, and the harvest takes place precisely during this period, from mid-October to the end of November.

Our chestnuts are provided by the most important cooperative of producers in Marradi: Agri.Comes, which guarantees us quality and size. We have chosen those of medium size for their greater sweetness and better adaptability to various cooking and roasting methods.

The chestnuts are always super fresh when they depart for your homes, as orders are processed only upon delivery of the corresponding invoice. We do not store chestnuts because we know they must be consumed fresh.

You will notice that they are all healthy: we have already tested them with great satisfaction. The Marron Buono di Marradi chestnuts will arrive in perforated bags so that they can continue to breathe and ripen even after being removed from the tree.

For their preservation, we recommend a cool but not humid and dark place. Then the issue will be... to resist! They are so good that it can truly be said that “one leads to another.”
