Sunday, August 16th has finally seen the publication of the The WineHunter Award 2020 online guide. For those who may not know, this is a prestigious award given annually to identify excellence primarily in the field of wine but also in beer, spirits, and artisan food products.
The WineHunter was created by Helmuth Köcher, the original "wine hunter." It started in the early nineties, and in 1992 the first Merano Wine Festival was organized, because a group of people, including Helmuth Köcher, had the extraordinary idea of organizing an event where the excellence of products embraces the world of elegance, thus creating a manifestation never seen before in Italy until that time.
Hunting means research, patience, effort, but also great satisfaction when one achieves perhaps even more than the expected result. The discovery and the enhancement of excellence is therefore the guiding thread of the work that The WineHunter does, whether it involves food, beers, wines, or spirits.
This philosophy is well represented by the publication, in addition to the The WineHunter Award 2020 guide, of the TOP 50 Food, spirits, beer.
The award is given to products that, after tasting and careful evaluation by a team of experts, are assessed on a scoring scale ranging from a minimum of 90 points out of 100.
It is precisely this objective and impartial process that guarantees the consumer the unquestionable superior quality of the product. There are three tiers of scoring that correspondingly assign three different awards:
On Spaghetti&Mandolino, you can find products awarded with all three of these awards. However, we will have to wait until October for the publication of the 2020 Platinum awards.
At the moment, among the winners of the The WineHunter 2020 Red or Gold, there are as many as 23 suppliers of Spaghetti&Mandolino in the Food, spirit, beer sector. How to recognize the awarded products? Simple: they have the sticker with the symbol of The WineHunter Award.
Once registered on The WineHunter's website, one can send the sample for tasting of each reference for a maximum of 5 products that will then be tasted.
Tasting sessions are held by gathering all products of the same type, grouping a maximum of 10 products per tasting. For this tasting area, there are three different committees, one for spirits, one for beers, and one for culinary specialties, each made up of at least three members.
The committees are then coordinated by Helmuth Köcher personally with the support of Masterchef Bruno Cicolini. At the head of each committee is an expert from the sector, while the other two members are restaurateurs, bartenders, or, in general, operators from the area in question.
The criteria used to taste and thus evaluate a product are very specific as they must guarantee as much impartiality as possible for the taster, and they are:
The combination of all these criteria is exactly the formula that allows for the identification of a scoring tier and thus the assignment of the corresponding award.
Obtaining the The WineHunter Award essentially means two things: seeing the quality of the product recognized through the official diploma of The WineHunter Award and being able to broaden one's business opportunities through the prestige that such an award represents in itself, thus allowing for strong differentiation from the competition.
However, obtaining the award also means new opportunities that will allow for increased visibility of the company and, consequently, of the products because it allows awarded entities to access the selection of the Merano WineFestival and the Anteprime Merano WineFestival, as well as to participate in events organized by TheWineHunter all over the world.
