Discover the Ocone Vini brand: here’s our interview.

The winery Ocone is a historic production reality of the Sannio Beneventano active for over a century. It was founded in 1910 by Giuseppe Ocone and quickly achieved great success in the area. Today it has 10 hectares of vineyards and also procures grapes from a small network of historical and trusted suppliers, totaling over 25 hectares. Ocone has a young and enterprising team, united by a great passion for quality enology and eager to enhance the territory, working in great synergy with competence and professionalism.

The winery produces wines at the foot of Monte Taburno, in the municipal territory of Ponte (we are in Campania, and here you can find the selected typical products of Campania from us), where the hilly reliefs reach 400 meters in altitude, the soils are rich in clay and limestone, and the climate is temperate, influenced by the flowing waters of the Calore River. Here, as in the times of the Ancient Romans, native varieties cultivated by local populations find their place: Aglianico, Piedirosso, Coda di Volpe, Greco, Fiano, and Falanghina.

In 2018, the Ocone brand, along with the activities and structures of the winery, was acquired by the company “Euvitis 21. Agriculture, Territory, and Development”. The new ownership emphasizes the choice behind the entrepreneurial initiative: to develop a production reality of enormous potential in a modern and dynamic way, while respecting a strongly recognizable territorial identity.
It is with this ambitious goal that the Euvitis 21 team confronts each day, combining heterogeneous experiences and professionalism that merge the wisdom of wine tradition with the knowledge of modern techniques and technologies. A multifaceted knowledge that encompasses the entire supply chain, from cultivation to winemaking and aging, from commercialization to marketing through traditional and innovative channels.

We love these realities, these producers of unique, certified, and award-winning delicacies: they are true treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote paths of villages and countryside. We do not limit ourselves to just experiencing their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That’s why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

Stay with us to learn about Ocone Vini 1910: read the responses!

  • Who are we talking to?
Renato Miraglia, commercial manager and sommelier.

  • Is the company family-run? In what year was the company founded, and who was the founder?
Yes, since 1910. In 2018 it was taken over by the Vergona family, who started an eco-sustainable project that focuses on respect for nature and for the local vines.

  • Who was the founder, and what was his background or work experience if different from the current one?
The founder is Giuseppe Ocone, a winemaker and merchant.

  • What was the true reason or triggering fact behind the birth of this company, and when did it happen?
This company was one of the first to bottle wine at the beginning of the century when others sold grapes to social wineries; thus began a journey of enhancing the native Campanian grape varieties.

  • What is your relationship with your land of origin and its uniqueness? And why do you want to tell its story with your products?
To tell the uniqueness of extraordinary native grape varieties. A land with a great story, from mythology to ancient Rome: this influence has helped greatly in telling our wines and our territory.

  • What was the first product you created?
Apollo DOCG (pure Aglianico vinified in steel)

  • What is the product that you consider the “flagship” today?
    Anastasi (Aglianico vinified in barrique)

  • And what is the product that has most represented the beating heart, philosophy, and soul of the company throughout its history?
Apollo DOCG because we are in the Taburno subzone, one of the four Campanian DOCGs.

  • Speaking of today: how much has the company grown since its inception? Can we have some numbers?
The company has grown significantly over the decades by developing an important national and international sales network; production stands at around 120,000 bottles divided into three product lines.

  • At this moment: more tradition or more innovation?
Innovation, but always respecting nature and therefore the grape as the central element around which everything revolves.

  • What has been the most significant evolution of the company to get to where it is today?
Without a doubt, our international commercial development.

  • Talking about the future: what tomorrow awaits the company? Are there any changes or new evolutionary processes planned?
There is a project to provide our customers with a 360-degree experience by creating a hospitality structure with bedrooms, tasting rooms, and an internal wine shop.

  • Do you plan to create new products?
    Bubbles method Charmat, passito.

  • Having focused on Spaghetti & Mandolino, how important is online sales for you, what has your past relationship been with this sales channel, and how do you see it in the future?
Very important because it creates a direct link between company and customer. There will definitely be significant development in the near future, and companies like Spaghetti & Mandolino that invest in communication will find themselves in an advantageous position compared to others that think it is all automatic.

  • Value: what has been, what is today, and what will be in the future for your company?
Value for us is to offer our customers a product always at the top of its condition with the intention of best representing our land. We constantly interact with wine enthusiasts, both virtually with scheduled tastings and in person at trade fairs and events, such as Vinitaly and the Merano Wine Festival.
