Discover the Arudi Vermouth & Bitters brand: here's our interview.

The Arudi Vermouth & Bitters is the result of the great passion of Max and Mirna Bernardini, liquorists by vocation and profession.
We are obviously in Piedmont (here you can find the typical products of Piedmont) and by chance, after becoming passionate about the history of the Premiata Fabbrica Liquori e Vermouth Martino Balbo, they found among ancient documents, labels and other memorabilia a rare book on liquors, published in 1923, by Giulio Arudi, an aromatizer, which collected the essence of knowledge on liquors of the period.

The original recipes of classic Vermouth and Bitter have been modernized and are now being proposed again in honor of the author of the book. This is how the idea was born to bring back to life the recipe of the classic Vermouth that thus returns to the market, paying homage to one of the most traditional products of ancient Turin.

The Arudi Vermouth & Bitters offers three versions of Vermouth di Torino, Rosso, Bianco and Dry, in addition to a Bitter with its unmistakable ruby red color. Vermouth is a truly unique, unmistakable, and versatile flavored wine.

We love these realities, these producers of unique, certified, and award-winning delicacies: they are real treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote streets of villages and countryside. We don't just focus on experiencing their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That's why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

Stay with us to know Arudi Vermouth & Bitters: read the answers!

  • Who are we talking to?
    Massimiliano Bernardini, owner.

  • Is the company family-run? In what year was it founded?
Yes, it is family-run. Our story of Arudi started only in 2020.

  • Who was the founder and what was his training or what was the work and professional field he came from if different from the current one?
My family and I have been working in the Food&Beverage field for over thirty years. Eleven years ago, we recovered a historic brand from Val d'Aosta, Vertosan, and began producing liquors and infusions with a strong territorial connotation. Last year (2020) I purchased the Arudi brand dedicated to Vermouth di Torino and Bitters, and simultaneously opened the headquarters in Turin.

  • What is the real reason or triggering factor behind the birth of this company and when did it happen?
During the first lockdown in 2020, I felt the need to embark on a new path, to bring back to life an excellence of the past, reinterpreting it to make it current. The recipes for the Vermouth and bitter were found in a book among the papers of the former Martino Balbo of Trofarello, who had been the supplier to the Grand Duke of Genoa in the early 1900s. Arudi is the aromatizer who authored the found recipe book.

  • What is your relationship with the land of origin and its typicality? And why do you want to tell it through your products?
Telling the territory through food and wine products has always been our passion and mission. We believe it is an immense wealth to be rediscovered and passed on, always combining history and contemporaneity, through the innovation of ancient knowledge, recipes, and the rediscovery of unique raw materials for aroma.

  • What was the first product you created?
Vermouth and bitter were created simultaneously, reinterpreting the recipes of the aromatizer Arudi from the early years of the last century.

  • What is the product that you consider to be your "flagship" today?
The Vermouth. Our recipes have been designed to fit the regulations of Vermouth di Torino. For a couple of months, we have been part of the Consorzio Vermouth di Torino, together with great producers, and this fills us with pride.

  • And what is the product that throughout the history of the company has most carried with it the beating heart, philosophy and soul of the company itself?
    Always the Vermouth.

  • Speaking of today: how much has the company grown since its inception? Can we have some numbers?
Arudi started production in December 2020, but it is already giving us great satisfaction.

  • At this moment: more tradition or more innovation?
They go hand in hand, this is our philosophy.

  • What has been the most important evolution of the company to get to where it is today?
Being admitted to the Consorzio Vermouth di Torino, which carefully selects its members.

  • Talking about the future: what tomorrow awaits the company? Are there any planned changes or new evolutionary processes?
Our attention is focused on a clientele that loves quality and high-level products, both in Italy and abroad. It is in this direction that we are moving.

  • Are you planning to create new products?
Yes, certainly, our search for new products and developments is ongoing.

  • Having focused on Spaghetti & Mandolino, how important is online sales for you, what has your relationship been like in the past with this sales channel and how do you see it in the future?
Online sales are not a priority because the tasting aspect is missing, but we believe in digitization. In the future, we hope it will improve.

  • Value: what has been, what is today, and what will be in the future for your company?
Our main value is quality, always and forever.
