Let's discover the Ca' Viola brand: here is our interview

The Ca' Viola Farm is a reality that reflects in its excellent wines the concept of territory in its highest and most noble expression.
It was founded out of passion by the oenologist Beppe Caviola in 1991 in his native Montelupo Albese, a small town in the Langhe, starting from a small Dolcetto vineyard rented. In this reality, called Barturot, Beppe Caviola, together with his trusty Maurizio, vinify the grapes in the garage of his parents' house: this is the origin of a very successful wine story.

One day Elio Altare, already established star of the Barolo galaxy, tastes that wine and encourages Beppe to bottle it. This is how 860 bottles of Dolcetto come out. The first label signed by Ca' Viola.
In Montelupo, Ca' Viola also manages a small plot of Barbera and decides to vinify it, bringing to light the famous wine “Bric du Luv”, which in the years became first Langhe Rosso and finally Barbera d'Alba, summarizing the evolution that is taking place under the sky of the Langa.
In 2002, the Ca' Viola winery moved to Dogliani to a large 19th century villa, Villa Bracco, where production, consultancy and tourist reception can coexist in harmony, united by the same philosophy of simplicity and excellence.
Since 2005, together with his brother-in-law Giancarlo Vivalda, Ca' Vivalda, has been running a Nebbiolo vineyard, giving life to Barolo DOCG SottoCastello di Novello, a high quality red wine, energetic, austere and bewitching, able to give a rare pleasure to the taste. A year later, in 2006, the first label of the “King of Wines” saw the light of day.

Today, the Ca' Viola Farm produces, alongside the historic Barbera and Dolcetto labels, also a Barolo, which Beppe Caviola defines as “the crowning of a journey”, currently counting 14 hectares of vineyards, divided between Montelupo and Novello.
The wines of the Ca' Viola winery are real jewels of the Langhe, born from the passion and expertise of Beppe Caviola, who became in a few years, from a young oenologist, to a renowned producer.

We like these realities, these producers of unique, certified and award-winning delicacies: they are real treasures embedded in our Peninsula between seas and mountains and in the most remote streets of villages and countryside. We don't stop to experience only their products, but we want to discover more closely the protagonists of this brand. That's why we sent some questions to those who manage communication with us.

  • Who are we talking to?
I'm Michela Vivalda, sales manager (Italy/Abroad)
  • Is the company family run? What year was it founded and how did the early years develop?
The company is family run. Founded in 1991 in Montelupo Albese, it represents the first generation.
  • Who was the founder and what was his training or what is the branch of work and professional from which he came if different from the current one?
My uncle Giuseppe Caviola is the owner and the winemaker of the winery. Beppe has been dealing with wine since he was a boy, ever since he decided to attend the Alba Wine School where generations of excellent winemakers and winemakers have been trained.
  • What is the real reason or the triggering fact behind the birth of this company and when did it happen?
The world of wine represents everything for Beppe. After his studies, the young Beppe found employment at the Centro per l'Enologia al Gallo, just outside Alba. Later, in 1991, Beppe rented the vineyard of his dreams in Montelupo Albese, called Barturot, and vinified the Dolcetto grapes in the garage of his parents' house.
  • What is your relationship with the land of origin and its typicality? And why do you want to tell them with your products?
The link with the territory is very strong. We try to produce typical wines that can best express the terroir.
  • What was the first product you created?
First wine: Dolcetto d'Alba Barturot year 1991
  • What is the product that today, on the other hand, do you consider “top”?
    Barolo Subcastle of Novello.
  • And what is the product that in the entire history of the company has most carried with it the beating heart, philosophy and soul of the company itself?
Barbera d'Alba BricduLuv, a wine that has been the fulcrum of so much experimentation and growth.
  • Let's talk about today: how big has the company grown since its inception? Can we get some numbers?
From 800 to just under 80,000 bottles. From 0 hectares of property to today, which are about 15
  • Right now: more tradition or more innovation?
As far as our history is concerned, we talk about innovation, but always with respect for tradition.
  • What was the most important evolution of the company to get it to what it is today?
Surely a journey has been taken within our company that has led us today to find our style. The wines have lightened up, finding elegance and drinkability as the key to understanding.
  • Speaking instead of the future: what tomorrow will the company wait for? Are there any changes or some new evolutionary process planned?
We are planning an expansion of the cellar and the property's land.
  • Are you planning to create new products?
