Obtained from 100% Turbiana grapes, the Lugana Superiore DOC named after the Sanctuary of the Madonna della Scoperta proudly boasts, in the 2021 vintage, the recognition of Tre Bicchieri Gambero Rosso: selected among the 30 best wines of Lombardy, the white wine produced through sustainable agriculture elevates the name of Lonato del Garda (BS) and its Pearl, the estate of over 30 hectares that overlooks Lake Garda (would you like to discover 3 food and wine traditions of Lake Garda that you probably don't know?), directed by the skilled hand of Giovanna Prandini.
Already a winner of the title in 2019, the Lugana Superiore reaffirms its ability to conquer the palates of connoisseurs, as well as the hearts of lovers of the Garda territory. Lugana wines account for the majority of the production volume of the Pearl, constituting the most distinctive and leading labels; the Superiore brand was created to aspire to excellence, to a complex taste, rich in fruit notes, that is both long-lived and destined for fruitful maturation. One award isn't enough? In this case, it's a double whammy: the Lugana has also been awarded the "Gold" recognition from The Wine Hunter.
“The Tre Bicchieri from Gambero Rosso is an important milestone for us,” explains Giovanna. “For years we have been dedicated to interpreting the indigenous Turbiana grapes in all the types outlined in the Lugana DOC regulations. Receiving this recognition of excellence honors us as ambassadors of Made in Italy and rewards the teamwork that is dedicated to quality and sustainability from the vineyard to the bottle.”
The grapes used to make the Lugana Superiore are located at an altitude of about 150-250 meters above sea level, in an area where the soil is calcareous-clayey, of morainic origin. The vines, about twenty years old in this case, are trained in the Guyot system, with a density of 5,000 plants per hectare; the harvest takes place in September, exclusively by hand.
The wine is born to pair with the products from the territory that gave it life, particularly with risottos and lake fish: for example, risotto with Tremosine cheese (Tremosine cheese which we also talk about here) or baked coregone could be perfect pairings. When tasted with the view of the Garda landscape, the Lugana is appreciated even more, as the eye glides over the enchanting panorama of the place.
If until 2006 the estate produced grapes without proceeding with the winemaking activity, for the past sixteen years it has completed the supply chain by controlling every step, taking into account all the denominations of the reference regulations (in particular, for Lugana, the youngest and freshest, the Riserva, the Superiore, and small niche productions such as the late harvest).
As early as 2007, the first recognition arrives for the Madre Perla 2006, listed among the One Hundred Best Wines in Italy: from then on, the fame of Perla del Garda grows year by year, in parallel with the desire to invest in tradition and territory, in quality and in the potential of a wine like Lugana.
