At the World Cheese Awards 2022, bronze goes to Fior di Pepe

On Tuesday, November 2, 2022, the World Cheese Awards 2022 took place in Wales at the International Convention Centre Wales in Newport. 

 

But what is the World Cheese Awards 2022? 

It is the premier global event in the dairy world, where the best cheeses from around the world come together, and producers, suppliers, retailers, consumers, and food critics celebrate tradition, innovation, talent, and passion. 
The event, organized by the Guild of Fine Food, a publisher of gourmet food magazines, first took place in 1988 at the London Food Exhibition in London. It was initially conceived to expand the cheese market, make them known to a larger audience, and simultaneously reward high-quality cheeses in the dairy sector.

 

This year it reached its 34th edition with over 4,000 cheeses competing from 40 countries, it is the largest cheese challenge in the world! It gives cheeses from all continents the opportunity to shine globally in front of experts and international consumers. This edition, compared to previous years, had a surge in entries, including from unusual cheese-producing nations such as Canada, Argentina, Slovenia, Israel, and Ukraine.

 

How the World Cheese Awards 2022 Took Place

All 4,434 cheeses were tasted in a single day by 250 judges from 38 different nations. The Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Super Gold awards were assigned during the morning session before the Super Golds were re-evaluated to find the top 16 cheeses of the year and the world champion cheese.
The judges evaluate the cheeses according to several common characteristics: the rind, the body, the color, the texture, the consistency, and the taste. 
As you can imagine, it is a true honor to participate in this prestigious competition, and every participant aspires to win an award.

 

Fattoria Giambrone cheese wins bronze at the global dairy event

We are honored to announce that our Sicilian partner Fattoria Giambrone has won bronze thanks to the quality and uniqueness of its 'Fior di Pepe', a cheese with a very particular taste produced artisanally using the highest quality raw cow's milk.

Having the seal of approval from so many cheese experts is priceless for a cheesemaker. In our company, we put everything we have into our cheeses and strive only to achieve the best for our customers, so winning this trophy shows that it was worth it. For us, it was the first edition, and although we were fully confident in the quality of our product, we really did not expect such global confirmation of this magnitude."
