Wine and light: discover the ideal light for storing your wines

To ensure optimal wine preservation, it is essential to protect it from light exposure.

Why protect bottles from light?

Light, both sunlight and artificial, can trigger chemical reactions in the phenolic compounds of wine, altering its taste and aroma. Light-bodied white wines are particularly sensitive to this exposure. For this reason, they are often bottled in colored glass that offers some protection. However, transparent or light-colored bottles, such as light green or blue, are more vulnerable and require additional precautions during storage. It is advisable to store the bottles in cardboard boxes or wooden cases to shield them from direct light.

Horizontal or vertical storage?

For non-sparkling bottles, it is important to store them horizontally. This ensures that the wine remains in contact with the cork, keeping it moist and preventing oxygen from entering, which could oxidize the wine.

Optimal storage temperature

Regarding temperature, it is essential to maintain it constant between 10 and 14°C. Avoiding temperature fluctuations helps preserve the wine's organoleptic qualities over time.

By following these and other guidelines here, it is possible to ensure that the wine maintains its characteristics intact and offers an optimal tasting experience even after long periods of storage.
