More figs: we're not just talking about us!

I candied figs are a culinary delicacy obtained by cooking fresh figs in a sugar syrup until a soft consistency and a rich, sweet taste are achieved.

This preparation enhances the natural sweetness of the figs, transforming them into a versatile treat that can be used in numerous dishes, both sweet and savory.

Candied figs and cheese: a perfect pairing

The combination of candied figs and cheese is a classic that enhances both the natural sweetness of the figs and the complexity of the cheeses; this mix offers a taste experience rich in contrasts, making it perfect for appetizers, aperitifs, and gourmet dishes.

This combination, candied figs and cheese, is interesting for several reasons:

  • contrast of flavors: on one hand, we have the sweetness of the candied figs, and on the other hand, we find the saltiness or, in some cases, the acidity of the cheeses, characteristics that are softened, making everything more harmonious;
  • structural variety: the softness of the figs pairs well with the creaminess of fresh cheeses and the graininess of aged cheeses;
  • aromatic complexity: candied figs, often flavored with cinnamon or vanilla, enrich the already complex flavor of some cheeses, enhancing their characteristics.

Candied figs can be paired with different types of cheeses, fresh or aged, depending on personal preference.

Fresh cheeses might include ricotta, goat cheese, or mascarpone, while for aged cheeses, pecorino, parmesan, and gorgonzola are recommended.

Candied figs could also be used as an accompaniment to a mixed cheese platter, allowing the more curious to taste all the various facets of this pairing.

Pork with candied figs: a delight!

The pairing of pork and candied figs is a dish rich in contrasting and complementary flavors: the sweetness of the candied figs perfectly balances the saltiness and succulence of the pork, creating a delicious and sophisticated dish.

There is already a very good recipe: once the roast is removed from the oven, just let it rest for 10 minutes and then slice it into thick slices. Once the slices are arranged on the plate, the candied fig sauce is poured as decoration along with some sprigs of rosemary.

This dish is then very flavorful, creating a unique taste experience thanks to the combination of sweet and savory flavors.

Time for dessert!

The candied figs pair very well with ice cream; it is indeed recommended to add them still warm to flavors like fiordilatte or cream, but they also match well with chocolate.

They could also be used in the preparation of some cakes: from a tart with candied figs to a ricotta and fig cake, from panna cotta to muffins, from cream to brownies with figs.

Candied figs are a versatile and delicious ingredient useful for transforming a simple dessert into a refined and special treat, adding a touch of class to a simple preparation. Experimenting with these pairings can lead to surprising and delightful culinary discoveries, perfect for ending a meal on a high note.
