An ancient legend tells that at the end of the 14th century, a captain of the Visconti troops who had set up camp near Valeggio sul Mincio with his army fell in love with a beautiful river nymph. In the course of one night, a great love was born between the two, and the dawn surprised them promising eternal fidelity. Hunted by men who wanted to capture them, Malco and Silvia took refuge in the depths of the Mincio river, leaving a golden silk handkerchief to their pursuers, which the two lovers had symbolically knotted as a pledge of their union.
From that day on, the girls of the area, during feast days, love to recall the sweet story of the two lovers by preparing the traditional Love Knots of Valeggio. These are exquisite handmade tortellini with a dough as thin as silk, which is cut and knotted like a handkerchief, after being enriched with a delicate filling of spices and fine assorted meats (we have chosen the artisan pasta factory Sapori di Valeggio for you to enjoy).
Every year in June in Valeggio sul Mincio, along the Visconteo Bridge, and an enchanted place we have talked about here, the great Love Knot Festival takes place. A themed dinner with over 3,000 diners, who come from all over Europe to taste the legendary tortellini and watch the parades in medieval costumes
