L&' Novacella Abbey is a place steeped in nine centuries of history, culture and commitment.
Founded in 1142 by Blessed Bishop Artmanno of Bressanone, l&' Abbey was founded thanks to a donation of farms and land by the ministerials of Sabiona.
His story is a succession of crucial moments. Pope Innocent II, in 1143, conferred fundamental privileges, consolidating the important position of &' Abbey. In 1157, l&' Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa, under &' influence of Bishop Artmanno, confirmed the rights and possessions, establishing
a &' an alliance of great importance.
Despite challenges, such as &' devastating fire of 1190, which destroyed &' the entire cloistered complex, Novacella has a new Romanesque building.
The 16th century, however, brought with it the Peasants' Revolt in 1525, leaving indelible signs of devastation.
Novacella continued its growth in the following centuries, incorporating new parishes and expanding its sphere of influence.
In 1630, a crucial step towards the production of quality wines was taken with l&' acquisition of vineyards southwest of Bolzano.
Challenges were not lacking even in the 19th century, with the temporary suppression by the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1807.
However, in 1816, after the return of Tyrol to &' Austria, l&' Abbey reopened its doors and became even more committed to training and to &' education.
In the 20th century, Novacella joined the Austrian Congregation of Augustinian Canons in 1907, guaranteeing independence and continuity.
The wines of &' Novacella Abbey
For those who want to create exceptional wines, l&' the perfect equation includes the right combination of climate, soil
and type of grape.
For the &' Novacella Abbey, this translates into a &' fascinating symphony in the Bressanone valleys, where low temperatures and light moraine soils create an ideal environment for Kerner, Sylvaner, Riesling and Grüner Veltliner.
The result is a collection of white wines, fresh and fruity, that capture the soul of this unique region.

Further south, in Bolzano, the warmer climate and porphyry soils provide l&' ideal environment for Lagrein and Schiava.
In Cornaiano, surrounded by lean, gravelly and clay soils, we see our beloved Pinot Noir growing, witness to a unique and unmistakable terroir.
A perfect combination of climate and soil that gives character and complexity to these unique wines.
Rooted in their origins, but ready to embrace l&' innovation
The values that guide l&' Novacella Abbey strongly resist the passage of time, focusing on the continuous research of &' excellence, both in the care of
the vineyard and in the production of extraordinary wines.
The dedication of &' Abbazia extends to deep respect for the terroir, where every nuance of the soil contributes to the richness of its wine creations.
This deep respect is parallel to &' absolute commitment to nature, revealing how only sustainable management can guarantee the protection of an uncontaminated environment for future generations.
Tradition is for l&' Novacella Abbey a precious treasure that is manifested in every detail of its activities.
