The Alessio Komjanc winery is located in San Floriano del Collio in the province of Gorizia, in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, on the slopes of a hill. A wonderful and suggestive place from which, to the north, the spectacular view of the hills and the Eastern Alps with the Matajur, Canin and Monte Nero mountains opens up.
Along the road that leads from the church of the sanctuary of Preval to the center of San Floriano del Collio, the first winery you come across is precisely that of Alessio Komjanc.
L&' company was founded many years ago, in the Seventies, thanks to the entrepreneurial spirit of his grandfather Alessio, from whom the winery takes its name, who decided to continue to carry out his own l&' an agricultural activity that he had previously carried out at &' his father's company.
The Komjanc, in reality, had already been a family of winemakers for centuries and, starting at the end of &' the nineteenth century, Alessio's great-grandparents were already producing wine in Collio. From the beginning, Alessio decided to give the winery a monovarietal character and was in fact one of the first, in the entire small town, to understand the importance of selling his wine in bottles.
The first labels under the “Alessio Komjanc” brand date back to the 1973 vintage. From here on, a path of success and satisfaction begins that takes us to this day.
Alessio Komjanc: tradition and innovation through generations
Over the years, the project expanded hand in hand with the family. In fact, it is the family that turns the work of the cellar around.
In 2000, the four sons of Alessio, Beniamin, Patrik, Ivani and Roberto, started working in the company alongside their father. The first three begin to follow the vineyards and the actual vinification process, while Roberto, together with his wife Raffaella, is dedicated to the reception and marketing of the finished product. #39
In 2006, the cellar was then completely renovated and expanded to a covered area of 750 square meters. In the Alessio Komjan winery, only grapes from the vineyards owned by & #39 are vinified; the company and the wines are mostly aged in steel, even if a small part is still reserved for &' aging in wood.
L&' Komjanc winery currently has 24 hectares cultivated with vines and about 80,000 bottles produced at &' year. An artisanal reality in which the quality of the product is a value of central importance.
Alessio Komjanc: quality as a word d&' order
The motto at Komjanc is “We are the guardians of the earth and of the values it expresses”. What does it mean? A simple phrase that perfectly explains the values of &' company, that is, the continuation and protection of the traditions and fruits of its territory in the most poetic form there is, namely that of wine.
The territory in which this winery is located is particularly suited to viticulture, thanks to its mild climate and therefore to the ideal climatic conditions created by the protection against cold winds to the north provided by the Prealps and to the south by the proximity of the sea, only 15 km away in line d&' air.
The soil is also another key element: consisting of marls, or a type of sedimentary rock composed of a clay fraction and a carbonate fraction, it gives a strong minerality to the wines with the Alessio Komjanc label. The hills on which the vineyards are located are an indisputable sign of quality since it is precisely l&' a typical summer temperature range between day and night that gives the grapes l&' aroma that characterizes the wines produced here.
The word quality can also be found in another element that characterizes the work of the Komjanc winery, namely low production. Very low production yields, on average 1.5 kg per plant, have in fact l&' the objective of creating a production of very high quality. Important and quality wines that will surely win you over.
Alessio Komjanc: values that don't change over time
The values of this reality are simple but equally significant. Tradition, because you must never lose your roots. Responsibility, towards the planet, thus focusing on the concept of sustainability. Family, because it is the beating heart of &' company, l&' the inspiration of life that has made, makes and will make possible the continuous growth of this reality.
Culture because it is the value that gives personality to the work of Alessio Komjanc and enhances it: wine is a cultural product capable of communicating the history and knowledge of this border territory, rich in history and wounds. Alessio Komjanc's wines therefore want to be an expression of the easternmost part d&' Italy, of Collio, a land
with a viticultural vocation for several centuries.
