Fontanavecchia: history, tradition, and passion of a family

The historic cellars Fontanavecchia: a temple dedicated to wine, to the hard work of man, to the enchantment of the slow and delicate rites that have woven the life of a winemaking family for generations. Built by the patriarch of the Rillo family starting from the 19th century and later restructured and enlarged over time, they now represent a prominent wine reality in the Campania region.

Fontanavecchia operates in the homonymous district of Torrecuso in the province of Benevento over an area of 20 hectares, under the attentive management of Libero Rillo, supported by the experience of his father Orazio and his brother Giuseppe.

The ability of this family, since its origins, to manage the work in their own vineyards, to press the exceptional grapes produced, and to bottle the precious wine under their own brand, makes Fontanavecchia one of the most important and ancient wine realities in the entire Sannio.

The tradition, the Campanian pride, and the continuous striving to achieve new and confirmed excellences represent the distinctive traits of the Rillo family in each of the wines produced. Results that over the decades have turned the Falanghina and Aglianico Fontanavecchia into iconic labels, precursors of a new grand story in the landscape of wine production in Taburno.

Fontanavecchia Wines: love and Sannio tradition

All the wines produced by the Fontanavecchia company are expressions of the Sannio wine tradition. They have always told a story of patient work, carried out to achieve a single, indispensable goal: excellent quality. For this reason, all the different phases of production are carried out with passion and meticulousness, with the utmost respect for the vineyards, the wine, and the people: from activities in the vineyard to winemaking, up to bottling. This allows for the enhancement and guidance towards excellence of the identity and peculiarities that each grape variety can express.
The Fontanavecchia winery is located in the ancient medieval village of Torrecuso, a land where the vine and olive tree shape the magical and unspoiled landscape, at the foot of Mount Taburno.

In the enchanting district of Fontanavecchia, alongside the extensive vineyards of Aglianico and Falanghina, different types of premium grapes are cultivated. In these lands, the quality of the wines originates above all from the vineyard, seeking solutions and cultivation methods, harvesting, and winemaking that best respect the soil, the environment, and the tradition.
In the cellar, the philosophy is not very different, so in the sign of the oldest and most deeply rooted local traditions, the grapes are processed and interpreted while keeping in mind the primary goal, which is to enhance and valorize what the season and the territory have been able to express in the fruit.

This meticulous processing allows us to have excellent wines capable of engaging the nose with complex olfactory bouquets, and able to conquer the palate thanks to an important and precious taste tension.
