Azienda Agricola Sordo Giovanni is a family-run winery that spans over 50 hectares of vineyards between Langhe and Roero. For four generations, it has produced exceptional wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Dolcetto d'Alba, Barbera D'Alba, and much more.
Sordo Giovanni: passion and tradition for 4 generations
Azienda Agricola Sordo Giovanni was founded in 1912 by Giuseppe Sordo, and as in the best family traditions, it is now run by Giuseppe's grandson, Giorgio Sordo, with his daughter Paola joining him, representing the fourth generation of the family.
The Sordo Giovanni winery is located a few kilometers from Alba and is situated at the foot of the Barolo hill, in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, in the province of Cuneo.
Today, the company has an area of over fifty hectares, of which currently about forty are planted with vines, distributed in the municipalities of the Langhe, in some of the best areas for exposure and microclimate. Among the rows, modern agronomic techniques are followed, and vineyard management is highly respectful of the environment and ecosystem, thus the use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides is completely banned.
The company is equipped with modern facilities for winemaking, storage, and bottling of wines. An impressive aging cellar, furnished with more than a hundred large oak barrels, allows for perfect maturation and evolution of the wines.
All production processes, both in the vineyard and in the winery, refer to the rigorous traditions passed down from previous generations.
Sordo Giovanni: excellence in wines, classicism, and tradition
Azienda Agricola Sordo Giovanni is one of the few to boast as many as 8 different Barolo Crus obtained from 5 different municipalities of the denomination. Each of these Barolo Crus expresses a local identity and a unique vocation, resulting in wines that differ in character, but are linked by a common thread, that is the essential elegance that distinguishes the entire line of Sordo wines.
The soils of these vineyards, composed of compact limestone marls, are very deep and rich in microelements. Coupled with the typical microclimate of the Langhe hills, they provide the ideal environment for cultivating the Nebbiolo grape for Barolo, a very vigorous and demanding grape variety, which allows for the production of high-quality, long-lived wines rich in aromas.
In the winery, modern winemaking, bottling, and storage facilities are complemented by dedicated aging rooms, which count over a hundred large oak barrels. In this way, with the utmost respect for local traditions, high-quality wines are born, rich in aromas and scents, long-lived and of absolute qualitative level. The labels signed by Sordo Giovanni are the result of a deep love for their land and vineyards, stemming from an unconditional passion for their work and origins.
Azienda Sordo Giovanni gives us the opportunity to taste some Barolo DOCG: fine wines that have been awarded and recognized also with the Awards of The Wine Hunter.
