Azienda Agricola Musso is a wine-producing company with vineyards and a production cellar that offers you excellent quality wines.
Musso: a history of wines and vineyards for generations
Azienda Agricola Musso is located in Barbaresco, in the Langhe region of wine. In this village dedicated to wine, the company has developed its history, often coinciding with more general events that have marked the path of society as a whole.
The Musso winery was founded in 1929, a year that coincided with one of the most critical moments in the Italian and global economy, the year of the “great depression,” which caused the collapse of myths and structures that seemed invincible. Yet, Sebastiano Musso did not lose heart; he found the strength to react and established a small winery in Barbaresco. He continued the work of his ancestors, cultivating the vineyards, but also began to vinify and produce wine.
In the 1960s, Augusto, the son, decided to assist his father Sebastiano in managing the company. This was a period when Italy had its law on origin wines, which provided greater certainty for producers and consumers, enhancing the products and their quality. Subsequently, in 1966, Barbaresco became DOC, and this recognition generated significant interest.
Fifteen years later, Augusto's son, Valter Musso, a graduate of the historic Enological School of Alba, joined the company. Today he is the helmsman of the production structure.
Over time, the Azienda Agricola Musso added other vineyards, two new parcels of land in Pora and Rio Sordo, and expanded the market, thanks to new horizons that looked beyond national borders. Today, the protagonists are still the people and their generations. Not in conflict with each other, but in total synergy, valuing the best abilities of each.
Musso: fine and recognized wines
The Musso winery is located in the heart of Barbaresco. Here, all phases of the winemaking process take place. Each phase is conducted in a dedicated environment: the steel containers in the winemaking area, the wooden barrels in the aging spaces, and the bottles for the time of refinement.
The vineyards, covering about 10 hectares in total, are mainly located on the hills of Barbaresco: planted with the varieties of the local tradition (Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Freisa) and with the universal Chardonnay, the vineyards of Azienda Musso are situated in four of the most prestigious Geographical Indications of the area: Pora, Rio Sordo, Cavanna, and Ronchi.
The main protagonist of the entire vineyard heritage is the Nebbiolo grape, which accounts for about 50% of the total area. The remaining portion is divided among the other five varieties. The result of the work in the vineyard and the cellar is the wine, with an average of 80,000 bottles produced each year. 40% is Barbaresco, a great red wine with structure and long endurance over time. Alongside Barbaresco, there are four other red wines and two whites: from Nebbiolo, the company also produces Langhe Nebbiolo DOC. Then, among the reds, from Barbera, Barbera d’Alba DOC; from Dolcetto, Dolcetto d’Alba DOC; and from Freisa, Langhe Freisa DOC. Finally, the two white wines, Langhe Chardonnay DOC and Roero Arneis DOCG.
The wines signed by the Musso winery express the essence of Barbaresco: recognized and awarded wines, including those from the Awards of The Wine Hunter.
