Salcheto, founded thirty years ago as a small family business, thanks to the control of &' energy efficiency of all production processes, is today a laboratory of technology applied to environmental sustainability and widespread social development.

The winery is located in the south-eastern area of the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano denomination, in the province of Siena. It takes its name from a small stream that traces the boundary of the properties and which, in turn, takes its name from the willow trees, “salco” in ancient Tuscany, that populate the territory and which offer man the vines with which to tie the vines.
Thanks to Michele Manelli, at the helm of the company since 1997, who personally oversees the work in the vineyard and cellar, Salcheto has established itself as one of the most avant-garde wineries in the world, in particular with regard to environmental sustainability and biodiversity. The Salcheto winery has important world records related to the indexation of Carbon and Water Footprint.
To date, the company can count on a vineyard area that covers about fifty hectares, since 2009 completely managed in a biological and biodynamic regime

Salcheto: high level organic wines
From the vineyard to bottling, the mission is aimed at obtaining the highest quality, paying attention to all the intrinsic peculiarities of the grapes, so every production step is carried out with obsessive attention.
The harvest, strictly manual, is followed by vinification without the addition of sulfites and with only native yeasts, while aging is carried out in tonneau and large barrels. Predominantly Sangiovese, this is how the “Salcheto” wines come to symbolize the best essence of the Montepulciano terroir.
The building that houses the winery was built according to the most modern technologies to integrate with the surrounding environment with a view to efficiency, autonomy and energy savings. The vineyards extend for 30 hectares on the clay and tuff soils of the Sienese hills, at an altitude of over 400 meters, in the territories of Montepulciano, Chiusi and the Val d'Orcia. The attention to the physiology of the plant and the choice to refrain from invasive interventions in the vineyard, in favor of grassing, mowing and green manure, allows the growth and development of a high quality raw material, that is, of beautiful, healthy bunches rich in juice.
