L&' La Basentana company manages a &' family farm called Antico Frantoio il Chiastrone. It is the family of Roberto Passerini, agronomist and agricultural entrepreneur with a great and long experience made up of passion for &' extra virgin olive oil.
La Basentana: extra virgin olive oil specialists for more than 150 years
It all began in 1870 with a notarial act that sanctioned the properties of the Santoro di Tricaricofamily, of Roberto's great-grandmother. L&' the company then passed into the hands of his grandfather Pasquale, and then from 1966 to Giuseppe's father, Gustavo.
And so after 4 generations, in 2000 it was Giuseppe who took over the reins of &' company.
But what binds the generations of a family together for so long, to continue the &' oil mill activity? The passion for a land, Lucania, rich in history, traditions and an ancient culture for the' olive tree and its excellent products.
The purpose of La Basentana is precisely to tell the story of Lucania with their products, through the scents and flavors of &' oil.
Every year the tradition is repeated: the processing of olives, the harvest and l&' tasting the first oil are some of them. And it is precisely in this generous land that the family produces and directly transforms only superior quality and organic extra virgin oils.
Today La Basentana cultivates all&' about 7000 olive trees on 24 hectares of territory. The olive groves stretch along the Basento Valley and are located in a hilly area under organic farming.
The climate is very favorable and no special protection against parasites is required.
In addition, only certified organic fertilizers are used for l&' organic olive growing.
La Basentana: between centuries-old olive trees and quality products c&' passion is in the way
All the olive trees that are part of the cultivation of the &' family business have a single founder: Il Chiastrone, an example of an ancient olive tree. The Chiastrone is l&' emblem of &' company and represents its historical memory.
The plant has managed to produce up to 900 kg of olives on its own and in the past as many as 9 men and 11 women collected the fruits.
Every year, today, a few delicious bottles are produced from its olives.
L&' obtaining the final product that is sold to the consumer is l&' the last step in a long chain of meticulous operations, which are constantly accompanied by passion and attention to detail.
The olives are harvested, for example, at the right degree of ripeness and the best are selected. They are then defoliated and thoroughly washed, not to mention the fact that they must be processed within 6 hours of harvest.
In addition, the oils are filtered with strictly natural methods. Here are just a few of the meticulous processes that are carried out to ensure the perfect supply chain!
Tradition, however, is not the only fundamental key for l&' La Basentana company: l&' innovation is another key point, since modern technologies make it possible to carry on the tradition itself, while remaining in step with the times.
Many new processes guarantee ever greater quality and yield. This allows the end customer to be able to consume an extra virgin olive oil that is more unique than rare, which permeates the passion that has always characterized the company
