The story of Antonio Fattori starts from a small village perched on the walls of an ancient extinct volcano in the eastern hills of Verona.
Yes! Just one volcano, Calvarina, the largest extinct volcano in the Italian foothills. Here millions of years ago, the landscape was tropical, with coral reefs, brightly colored fish and colorful, lush flora. The warm waters submerged everything that is now visible and La Calvarina was a volcano that emerged from the waters that spewed out bursts of lava and sulphurous funnels. The fossils of the great Bolca fishmonger reveal this story to us. The earth is black and in some parts the large black basalt crystals still emerge. Wild capers and blue irises make this territory a place in its own right, a unique space among the first peaks of the Lessini Small Dolomites.
In Brenton, above Roncà, Antonio was born and lived and today he has built an extraordinary winery that tells all that story. A tunnel that penetrates the black volcanic rock and creeps into the belly of the ancient volcano from which fire energy was once released and today pure and crystalline water flows. Antonio inherited from his father Giovanni the vineyards in very suitable areas that have always been dedicated to viticulture. Here it produces the ancient local Durella grape and other international vines such as Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio. Further west, in the hills of Monteforte, Garganega produces Garganega for its great Soave. The latest acquisition is the extraordinary terrace of Col Bastìa where, about 500 meters away, it produces the grapes for the Valpolicella and Amarone wines.
Vini Fattori: award-winning wines like Soave
Antonio is a purist, he seeks the existential union between the earth and its fruits. The Soave DOC Fattori are exciting and capture all the vibrant force of these black volcanic lands. Pure energy that Antonio manages to tame and transform into elegance and pleasure. The Soave Motto Piane 2008 was named Best Single Grape White Wine in the World by Decanter in 2010. Purity and eccentricity, the unmistakable style of Antonio's thought. An aesthete lover of art who thinks of her wines as an elevation of an idea of harmonious beauty
