Fattoria di Busona: scopri i prodotti

We are in the land that smells of Chianti, at the southern limit of the Municipality of Castellina, we are on the border between Siena and Florence, on the stretch that goes up from the fortified village of Monteriggioni to Lornano and then from there continues to Topina and Quercegrossa.

From battle territory to agricultural settlement
An area of

battles between Sienese and Florentines, and then between French and imperial, up to 1559 and the Treaty of Cateau-Cambresis, as evidenced by some findings of watchtowers.

It then became an agricultural settlement at the end of the 16th century, on the property of the Convent of Santa Margherita in Castelvecchio di Siena, with the first farms built (some olive trees in houses in stone lunettes may date back to that time), and later of the Piccolomini family

of Siena.

The property was then purchased in 1706 by Francesca Malavolti, who brought it as a dowry to her marriage to Girolamo di Celso Domenico Bargagli. From that moment on, the ownership of Busona has remained uninterruptedly owned by the Bargagli family and their heirs.

Not only oil: 160 hectares of quality

The company currently covers an area of about 160 hectares, of which about 138 are in the hilly area and 22 in the plains, in the Municipality of Castellina in Chianti for the most part, and in the Municipality of Monteriggioni. The company produces grapes for Chianti Classico, Tuscan IGP EVO Oil, cereals, legumes and oilseeds, on a rotating basis.

Since 2019 we have started with the recovery of olive groves

.

The company
currently has two olive groves in the Municipality of Castellina in Chianti. The olive groves were practically abandoned when they were taken over in 2019, starting their reform from 2020 to gradually bring them to a polyconical pot farm, and then continuing with refilling

.

In 2020, the recovery of the oldest olive groves was also started, for which there is the idea of developing a dedicated 'cru' project, and finally a project to expand production on farm land most suitable for olive trees, which were devastated by the terrible frost of 1956.

Fattoria di Busona: sustainability and technology in the field

At the same time, expanding the precision agriculture project launched on vineyards in 2021, we have also started using environmental sensors and predictive analysis platforms in olive groves to create agronomic practices aimed at maximum environmental sustainability, from grassing to shredding in the field of pruning, to fertilization at variable rates, to the use of zeolite, also for

future certification.

Fattoria di Busona participates, in collaboration with l&' University of Siena - Santa Chiara Lab, in the AGRITECH project, for the definition with scientific methods of &' geographical origin of agri-food products and to define methods and tools to significantly improve the current resolution for an ever greater precision than &' origin of the product.

The ultimate goal is to define and trace the real 'microzones' of origin for EVO oil.
