There is a region in Italy that few people know and that, on the other hand, represents a real surprise for anyone who visits it. Molise seems almost detached from our country and yet it is nestled in its center. A small outlet to the sea with the city of Termoli and then its extension inland between the regions of Abruzzo and Lazio in the north and Puglia and Campania in the south.

Isernia and Campobasso are its most important cities. Molise is fascinating and in its simplicity, sometimes resigned, it is a real reserve of time. Yes, that time that, within the walls of its beautiful stone cities, seems to have stopped. A region that experienced very difficult periods in the post-war period that saw the' emigration of many young people and where today a new front of hope can finally open up, precisely coming from agriculture.

Molise is a bit of the granary of Italy, where ancient and original species still exist that trace their history back to the ancient Romans and the first abbey plantations. Wheat that still represents the fundamental dividend for the agricultural and food economy of the people of Molise in the fields. Wheat and cheese from the Apennines pastures.

This region also has no plains and is predominantly mountainous with 55.3% of plateaus and 44.7% of hills and small heights. For this reason, herding is another primary source of supply of resources in Molise. The closure of this region has meant that many of its main products have not been known.


TYPICAL MOLISAN PRODUCTS


Among the most important are certainly the Caciocavallo Silano DOP, which has a fascinating history that is lost in the mists of time and which is still produced today with ancient techniques. The Caciocavallo di Agnone and the Caprino di Montefalco del Sannio in the southernmost part where it borders the Campania region of Sannio, even in Molise it is possible to produce PDO Buffalo Mozzarella, then there is Quaglliata, the Molise Scamorza, and the famous Treccia di Santa Croce di Magliano.

The typical Molisan cold cuts are especially worth considering in the Signora di Conca Casale, the Molise sopressata, the Rolled Ventresca, the Poparolic Ventricina by Montemitro and the Ventricina di Montenero di Bisaccia.

Molise is also a land of truffles, especially in its highest parts and towards Sannio, as well as in the Roccamonfina Park on the border with the Caserta area. In addition, the presence of olive trees preserves the medieval olive oil tradition and history and today the name Molise DOP protects the quality of &' oil. Wine production is mostly confined along the sea and the most important DOCs are Biferno and the more generic Molise.
