The Pomodorino del Piennolo del Vesuvio DOP should not be treated like all other tomatoes.
It is called piennolo because at its base it has a more or less pronounced stem. It can be recognized from imitations because when opened, it has only two lighter fiber bands and there are no scattered seeds.
An explosion of pulp contained in a thick skin. This is why it is ideal for sautéing pasta and fresh fish or catch.
This extraordinary tomato grows in clusters and almost touches the ground. Surely it breathes in all its warmth!

How can we use it? First of all, don’t put it in the refrigerator!
Keep it in a cool and not too humid place, perhaps hanging. The bunch ripens, meaning the small tomato has the characteristic of slowly losing water and not rotting, thanks to its thick skin. So don't worry if it wrinkles... it’s its goodness.
Don’t overcook it when you put it in the pan. Just a quick sear, keep it nice and juicy, and don’t squeeze it in the pan. Delicious if used to sauté Gragnano IGP pasta with some prawns or scampi. Fantastic with red shrimp from Mazara del Vallo.
