Becco Francesco Barolo DOCG Reserve

The name Bricco in the Langhe indicates a cru in the French sense. In practice, it refers to a small plot of vineyard of the highest quality.

The Bricco Francesco is produced in the most beautiful vineyard of the company: Rocche Annunziata in the municipality of La Morra.

It is a wine produced only in great vintages from 100% Nebbiolo. Francesco is the name of the son of the founder Francesco Costamagna. The soil is clayey-limestone and the vineyard is trained in guyot with a planting density of 4200 vines/ha. The harvest for this vintage is in September. The red winemaking was obtained with an 8-day maceration at 26°C.

The aging takes place in Slavonian barrels for 24 months. Lastly, one year in bottle before commercialization.

Alcohol 14.5% Vol.

Acidity 5.5 gr/l

Lifespan: from 5 to 20 years. Optimal period after ten years.

Becco Francesco Barolo DOCG Reserve: How is it produced

Azienda Agricola Rocche Costamagna, Piedmont

This winery, today managed by Alessandro Locatelli, represents one of the historic realities of the Langhe. In particular, from the municipality of La Morra, with about 170 years of history. Since 1841, it has produced and marketed typical wines of the territory. Mrs. Claudia Ferraresi, mother of Alessandro and granddaughter of the Costamagna family, took over in the late sixties. The company retains the most prized vineyards such as Rocche dell'Annunziata, Nassone, Pisotta, and Verduno. These are unique lands with an extraordinary mineral gradient that offers great finesse and expressiveness to the Nebbiolos, Dolcetti, and Barbera. The Nebbiolo of the Langhe is the king of Italian grape varieties, and the two types currently cultivated are Lampia and Michèt. The training system is always the guyot. The owned vineyards are 14, 6 of which are located in the mythical subzone of Annunziata. The winery is supported by two superstars of the Piedmontese lands, agronomist Gian Piero Romana and oenologist Giuseppe Caviola. The winery is located in the center of La Morra and also has a series of very charming B&B rooms. Claudia Ferraresi, a painter, journalist, and art critic, as well as a Woman of Wine, has created a Cultural Association called Ca Dj'Amis, which has curated the library and the room with ancient tools. Since 1976, she has established the "Ciao d'la Ca", an association recognition for individuals who have enhanced the environment, traditions, identity, and roots of humanity through their commitment. Among the main events promoted is the Salone del Libro Enogastronomico e di Territorio, which takes place every May and involves the most important realities in the field of publishing related to the taste and culture of the territory. The association has established "I Ristoranti delle Tavolozza", a consortium for deepening and exchanging among the most significant Italian and international food and wine areas.

Becco Francesco Barolo DOCG Reserve: use in the kitchen

All the wines that come from the Rocche dell'Annunziata vineyard are particularly complex and broad. Of great expressiveness and elegance. A sober and sometimes austere elegance.

It is a great fruity wine with notes of cherry jam, blackberry, blueberry, and black spices. Pleasantly balsamic with very elegant and fine tertiary elements from barrel aging, such as chocolate and sweet toast, gentle tobacco. On the palate, the tannins are very elegant and silky.

The wine has a sinuous and intriguing flow due to its elegant consistency and excellent persistence. The finish features pleasant dried fruit. A great wine for aging.

Pairings
Excellent wine for game and very spicy, intensely aromatic dishes. Pleasant with great aged Castelmagno DOP and even blue cheeses. Great with aged Robiole di Roccaverano DOP. Barolo that pairs well with large cuts of Fassona Piemontese. Excellent with boiled meats. We also recommend it on its own as a wine that can delight the company of a loved one. It is advisable to use very large tulip glasses.

Serving Temperature
Here we can also allow for a slightly higher temperature, but it should never exceed 18°C. The recommendation is always to serve in wide tulip glasses at a slightly lower temperature of 15°C and to wait for the wine to open up well, oxygenate, and start releasing all its exciting aromatic components.
