The Zucca Marina di Chioggia provided to us by Sa.Ma. Frutta is a true work of art from the plains of Veneto and is traditionally linked to the area of Chioggia, from which it takes its name, but generally to the coastal area of the province of Venice.
It is one of the largest varieties of pumpkin and the one we present is of medium size, but it can weigh 6-6.5 kg. It has a flattened shape at the poles with a noticeable belly similar to a turban. The segments are very pronounced, while the skin varies in color from dark green to gray and is very knobbly. The flesh is thick and orange-yellow in color, sweet, and very flavorful.
The Marina di Chioggia Pumpkin from Sa.Ma. Frutta is excellent when boiled, baked, stewed, fried in thin slices, in soups, creams, broths, minestrone, and risottos.
Even raw in appetizers or mixed salads, it is superb!
Thanks to the particularity of its flesh, which is thick, firm, mealy, and free of fibrousness, the Marina di Chioggia Pumpkin is particularly suitable for preparing pumpkin gnocchi.
