This extraordinary Bianco Pomedes DOC Friuli Colli Orientali di Scubla is a blend of 50% Pinot Bianco, 30% Tocai Friulano, 10% Chardonnay, and 10% Riesling Renano, from the best selections of the year.
Fermented in new 50% wood barriques and tonneaux, they frequently undergo a manual "batonage" for 7 months, after which the wine is blended and aged in stainless steel tanks for another year.
Location and vineyards: marl hills; selection of the best grapes harvested slightly beyond normal ripeness, more markedly for the Riesling. The selection occurs exclusively from old vines.
Harvest: manual, over half of September; 55 quintals per hectare.
Winemaking: whole grapes in soft pressing; after low-temperature decantation, the must ferments in 50% new French oak barrique and tonneau, the rest being second-passage. Maturation lasts 8 months with frequent batonage; follows a 10-month blending in stainless-steel tanks while maintaining contact with noble lees, then bottle aging for 3 months.
Acidity: 5.5 – 6 g/l
Year: 2017
Alcohol content: 14-14.5 %
The Bianco Pomedes DOC Friuli Colli Orientali by Scubla has a complex flavor, very aromatic and fruity, with a long and persistent finish. It is an excellent wine to pair with great first courses, including those flavored with truffle. Very elegant as an accompaniment to complex fish preparations.
