A noble sparkling wine of ancient origins, which is increasingly asserting itself among the great Veronese wines, is Lessini Durello. It received Doc recognition in 2008. In recent years, it has shown great liveliness and spirit. Produced from 85% Durella grapes with possible additions of Garganega, Pinot bianco, Pinot nero, and Chardonnay.
Durella is an ancient grape variety cultivated in the Vicenza and Verona areas. It has been mentioned as early as the 1200s with the name "Durasena", derived from the Latin "durus acinus", referring to the thick skin of the grape. It has significant acidity and is characterized by a sour taste. The soil in which it grows is of volcanic origin, rich in mineral salts that give sapidity to the sparkling wine.
Durello has a fine and persistent perlage of pale yellow color with greenish reflections, the aroma is delicately winey and fruity, and it is characterized by a tart and fresh flavor. For those who, like us, want to try sparkling wines different from Prosecco!
