Maremma Tuscany IGT Sangiovese AMARANTO

The names chosen by Lorenzo Zonin for his wines are always very evocative yet fitting. A later-than-usual harvest has brought the collection towards the first days of October with a particularly strong polyphenolic charge of color and aromas. These are 100% Sangiovese grapes from the Selceto and Sugarelle vineyards on clay soils. They are still young vineyards that offer grapes with a special tannic freshness and a beautiful wild component. After a 7-day maceration in steel, the wine is aged in old barriques for about 10 months. It is highly aromatic with red fruit, cherry, berries, raspberry, and currant. Pure vegetal sensations of aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub with a pleasant briny and iodine-like sensation. There are also hints of licorice and balsamic notes. The tension of the tannin is excellent; it is not strong but round, graceful, and straightforward. There is a beautiful complexity of fruit on the palate with an excellent finish of sour cherry.

Gavorrano, Maremma Toscana. A territory that extends toward the sea but firmly holds the dust of the burned clays of the hinterland. A small piece of paradise where Lorenzo Zonin produces biodynamic poetry and pure winemaking passion. His wines are open books about an untamed territory that conceals a sweet and gentle soul. The life of the vineyard is meticulously followed by Lorenzo, Davide, Michele, Claudio, and Giampiero, who accompany the formation of the grape cluster until its slow maturation and the ritual of the harvest. His wines narrate the salty breezes of the sea, the rustle of the wind among the leaves, the red dust of the ancient Maremma clays, the scents of the Mediterranean scrub, the saltiness, iodine, and the essentiality of bay leaves and wild rosemary bushes. They do it with the naturalness and frankness typical of this area. A mix of pleasantness and substance.
The estate covers 45 hectares, of which 15 are dedicated to vineyards, 2 hectares to olive trees, and the rest to sunflowers and cereals. Biodynamic agriculture is practiced across the entire surface. The grape varieties cultivated are Sangiovese, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Vermentino, and Trebbiano.
Lorenzo Zonin practices the art of nature and listens to its daily breath. Only by doing so can he produce such exciting and unique wines. Works of art that have captivated the most important international wine experts and have won major awards both in Italy and worldwide.
The wines bear names that recall the peculiarities of that farm in Tuscany: Luminoso, Carandelle, Amaranto, and San Cristoforo. For those seeking the wilder and more intriguing Tuscany where the territory imposes itself with elegance and interpretive strength. Wines that will amaze for their pleasantness and purity.
