The Best Rosé Wines: history and information

A rosé wine is undoubtedly special, placed next to a red wine or a white wine. But how exactly is rosé wine made? And why does it have that color, which is the middle ground between the two types of wine?

The production process of rosé wines is, in fact, halfway between white and red. First of all, it starts with a choice: use red grapes with little color or pink color; use a blend that contains few red grapes and many white grapes; use red grapes of any variety but extracting little color, macerating a portion of the grape. The first two cases do not require much explanation, while in the third case the color arrived at is due to a particular procedure

.

The red grapes that are crushed, leaving the skins to macerate in the must just enough for the wine to take the desired color. The final product may therefore have a more or less intense shade, which goes from pink to cerasuolo up to claret

.

Once the right color is obtained, the wine is separated from the skins (racking) and fermentation continues in steel containers. Subsequently, the wine is decanted and made clear. After a period of aging (i.e. resting to allow maturation) the rosé is filtered and bottled. Rosé wines should usually be drunk young, when the aromas are still intense
